    George William Evans arrived in New South Wales from England 16 October 1802. From 1803-1805 he was Acting Surveyor-General in New South Wales, 1806-1809 he was farming and in 1809 he was appointed Deputy Surveyor of Tasmania. In August 1813 he was recalled to Sydney to try and cross the Blue Mountains which he accomplished discovering Bathurst Plains. In 1815 he led an expedition south of Bathurst and discovered the Lachlan River. In 1817 and 1818 he accompanied Oxley on expeditions down the Lachlan and Macquarie Rivers.

    Papers possibly compiled by Edwin James Turpin ca. 1916, who married Mary Lempriere Evans, youngest daughter of George William Evans.
