    Though the authorship of the journal entries is not stated, a close comparison of the handwriting and style of entry, with that of Scott in DLMSQ 43, suggests that both the poems and the journal pages are in his hand. This is supported by the fact that these manuscripts arrived inside the case of DLMSQ 43, as part of the Dixson bequest

    The poems one of which is by Whitchurch, commemorate Rodney's defeat of the French Fleet off Dominica April 12, 1782

    Samuel Whitchurch of Bath was a verse writer of the 18th and early 19th centuries. The British Museum Catalogue distinguishes this Samuel Whitchurch from another of the same name by calling him Samuel Whitchurch of Bath
