William Robertson had daily contact with aboriginal tribes along the Fitzroy River, Queensland, in his youth. He wrote extensively for periodicals, notably Smith's Weekly, and broadcast to children and adults from 2BL radio station Sydney on subjects relating to Australia, mostly the Australian Aborigines.
