    Henry M. Chester, 1832-1914, Police Magistrate was born in London. He was appointed Police Magistrate at Somerset, Cape York, for the duration of F. L. Jardine's leave-of absence (1869-1870). After Jardine's return, he remained in the area, becoming Police Magistrate again in 1875 and remaining in that post until the removal of facilities to Thursday Island at thd end of 1879, where he continued his duties. In 1885 he was instrumental in annexing a large part of New Guinea to Queensland
