John Batman set out from Launceston, Tasmania in 1835 on board the schooner Rebecca to investigate the availability of grazing lands at Port Philip - Scope and ContentShow the first settlement of Port Phillip now the State of Victoria. Included is an account of the purchase of 600,000 acres of land from the Port Phillip natives, pages 38-41. Batman describes in detail the voyage in the Rebecca to Port Phillip.
