The Bank of Australasia was formed in London under Royal Charter with William Hayward, Robert Campbell and William Dawes as Board of Directors. The first general meeting was held in Sydney in 1835. Branches opened in Hobart and Launceston on 1 January 1838, in Melbourne on 28 August 1838, and in Adelaide in January 1839. By 1882 there were branches Victoria, New South Wales, New Zealand, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.
