John Abbott, 1803-1875, land owner and public servant, was Registrar General of births, marriages and deaths in Tasmania. He was the second son of Edward Abbott, Civil Commandant at Port Dalrymple - Scope and ContentContemporary description of Tasmania, including its physical features, natural history, timber minerals and aborigines. A separate chapter devoted to Hobart and its surrounds gives an account of its most notable buildings, its wharfs and the Derwent, newspapers and legal system, churches, the Bank of Van Diemen's Land, particularly mentions educational establishments. Watermark date 1823.
