  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

John Allan, J.P., of Kimbriki, was one of the early pioneers of the Manning River Region.
As a young man, along with family members, he arrived in 1851 at the entrance of the Manning River aboard the ketch "Orient". On crossing the bar the vessel was grounded with all the goods having to be unloaded on to the beach.

The Allan family, consisted of parents, George, a chemist, his wife Mary, and sons John, and William - a vet (who administered medical assistance to the early settlers prior to any doctor living on the river). They settled at Kimbriki where they had purchased 200 acres from the Australian Agricultural Company, and later expanded their holdings with land at Cooplacurripa and at Trunkey, Liverpool Plains.
