  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Foster Fyans arrived in Sydney in 1833, spent some time on Norfolk Island and was appointed Commandant at Moreton Bay in 1835. In 1837 he was appointed Police Magistrate and Protector of Aborigines at Geelong, Victoria, and was Commissioner of Crown Land at Portland Bay 1840-1849

    Describes his military service at Cadiz, during the Peninsular War and in India with 67th Regiment and in Sydney with 4th (King's Own) Regiment, the Moreton Bay penal settlement and the district, rescue of Eliza Fraser from the natives by John Graham, his work in the Portland Bay district and the work of Henry Smythe who planned Geelong
