Arthur Bowes Smyth was a surgeon on the Lady Penrhyn in the the First Fleet. In his journal of 1787-1789 he used the name Arthur Bowes. In the Mitchell Library copy of the journal the name Smyth was apparently added at a latter date. The family surname sometimes appears in other records as Smythe or Smith - Scope and Contenta.
