Donor Miss Elizabeth Nicholls, his granddaughter stated that some of the poems if not all appeared to have been written by him.
The Melbourne Advertiser in 1839 was renamed Port Phillip Patriot and Melbourne Advertiser, in October 1845 became Port Phillip Patriot and Morning Advertiser - Scope and ContentContains MS. poems, ca. 1852-1878, cuttings from his writings in the Ballarat Punch 1868-1869 and other Victorian papers 1877-1903, a copy of 'Essay on politics in verse' published at Ballarat 1867 and facsimiles of vol. 1, no. 2 and 8 of the Melbourne Advertiser, January 8, February 19, 1838
