  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Herbie Marks, accordion player and composer, was born in Rooty Hill, Sydney in 1923. His family was involved in showbusiness. From the age of six, he played mandolin for Harry Clay's Vaudeville in Sydney. He taught himself the accordion at the age of nine, then had lessons from the American, Arbie Hartmann. His career developed as a talented showman, magician, accordion player, composer for films and commercials, and music arranger. Marks died on 5 December 1980.
