- Scope and ContentThe diary is in two parts, the first being kept on a day-to-day basis from 28 August 1862 to 6 January 1863, describing visits to the islands in the Tonga, Samoa and Fiji groups. The second part is a much more detailed narrative of the voyage, written soon after O'Hea's return. Native customs are explored, and the islands and seascapes described in some depth. The volume has also been used for notes on Bible readings and on the subject 'Was Joan of Arc an Imposter' and there are some brief diary entries for September 1877
