R. T. Moodie, 1822-1899. sea captain, born Montrose, Scotland, came to Australia in 1848 in command of the ship Dorothy. In 1854, with his wife and family he brought s.s. City of Sydney to Australia for the Australian Steam Navigation Company, commanding the ship until she was wrecked at Green Cape, N.S.W., in 1862. In 1858 he was in Rockhampton, Queensland, as the Company's representative during the Canoona gold rush and in 1859 took troops to Taranaki, Ne Zealand, on the outbreak of the 2nd Maori War. He resigned from the Company in 1863. From 1865-1879 he was manager of the shipping department of Gilchrist, Watt and Co., merchants and shipping agents, Sydney - Scope and ContentBased on R. T.
