  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Protestant Alliance Friendly Society was established in New South Wales in 1859 and in Victoria in 1868. The two bodies were amalgamated in 1873 to become the Protestant Alliance Friendly Society of Australia. The Society provided medical attendance for members and their families, payments when members were unable to work through illness, and funeral benefits. Membership, as in most friendly societies, was made up largely of tradesmen and skilled workers
