Stewart Marjoribanks Mowle journeyed to Sydney in 1835 with his uncle, Edward Boxer Mowle. In 1838 he went from Sydney to visit his uncle at St Omer, near Braidwood and till the reminiscences break off in 1851 he lived mainly in Braidwood, Yarralumla and Monaro districts. He was closely associated with Sir. T. A. Murray at Yarralumla and the reminiscences contain many references to the latter.
