A journal of proceedings apparently written up for publication in 1853 (see pp. 436, 481) and descriptions of the following islands and their inhabitants: Isle of Pines, Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia, several of the Caroline and Solomon Islands. The descriptions and vocabularies, slightly abridged and altered are published as part of his 'A Description of islands in the Western Pacific Ocean'. Cheyne traded in sandal wood to the end of 1842 then in beche-de-mer. He often met with other vessels, trading or whaling and includes their news and reports of massacres, etc. and the massacre of the crew of the Martha at Mare and the Star at Isle of Pines. The doings of the European reprobates at Ponape, convicts escaped from New South Wales and Norfolk Island and deserters from whalers are described at length. In October 1842 Cheyne visited Norfolk Island. Pages 1-4 damaged, pages 281-284 wtg. Ends in the middle Ch XIV
