Her Majesty's Colonial Steam Sloop Victoria of 580 tons arrived in Melbourne, Victoria on 31 May 1856 under the command of Captain W. Norman and carried out routine naval work as well as serving in New Zealand during the Maori War of 1860. Norman's third son, Charles Ernest Norman. was a former Victorian Commissioner of Railways - Scope and ContentIncludes inter alia log book, 22 November 1856-21 February 1857 of H.M.C.S.S. Victoria; 16 letters 1858-1866 to Captain W. H. Norman relating to official duties carried out by ship and crew with 2 letters 1862 to Sir Henry Barkly, Governor of Victoria and from Secretary of State for the Colonies, Newcastle; Government reports and parliamentary papers, 1859-1861 mainly relating to the service of H.M.C.S.S. Victoria in New Zealand in Maori War; newscuttings, 192- mainly obituaries of C.E. Norman with 2 articles 1962-1968 by John Millar on H.M.C.S.S. Victoria
