William Cornwallis Symonds came to Manakau in 1839 as agent for the New Zealand Manakau and Wautemata Co. The papers are mostly letters to his family; they include copies of notes on a journey to Taupo and 3 letters from John Jermyn Symonds August 1841-October 1942. Sydney is described in a letter from William Cornwallis Symonds 12 October 1839
