Written on the first page in a hand similar to these entries is 'E. A. Budden, Grasstree, Muswell Brook, E. A. B. St Hilliers Muswell Brook'. The name Isaac B. Budden also appears here and there, and early pages have been scrawled over in a similar hand.

E. Budden is probably responsible for these entries. Sands' Country Directory 1881-82 lists Budden, Edward, farmer, Grasstree, M., and the 1889-90 lists him again and also Budden, Ephraim, farmer, M. The 1846-63 entries were probably made by a person of a different name as there are no Buddens listed at M. in Brabazon's directory 1848, Waugh 1862-63 and the 1867 country directory only lists Elijah Budden, saddler, M. and Elijah Budden, jun. assistant, M. Elijah Budden is one of the persons who bought from whoever kept the early part of the volume.
