  • Scope and Content
Letter to his cousin Donald Maclean, Writer to the Signet, Edinburgh. Writing from Sydney, Macquarie gives details of his parlous financial state and records his intention of resisting any further investments. In particular he refers to his desire that his family should acquire the estate of Ulva lost by his father but warns that his brother Charles' imprudence in buying land from the Duke of Argyle at an enormous price on his behalf means that he will not be able to make the purchase himself. Macquarie concludes by saying that he hopes to see Maclean and his other friends in Scotland in abouth eighteen months time
