Allan Cunningham, 1791-1839, botanist and explorer, arrived at Sydney in 1816. He joined John Oxley's expedition to the interior in April 1817 and accompanied Phillip Parker King on his coastal surveys, 1817-1822. Between 1823 and 1828 Cunningham undertook several notable explorations of his own. The first of these, from March to June 1823, resulted in the discovery of Pandora's Pass across the Liverpool Range to Liverpool Plains. Cunningham reported his discoveries in detail.
