Original diary is filed at B 1496. This copy MLMSS 4440 was transcribed by Mrs Joy Hughes to assist R. S. Muir in the preparation of his 'Dunmore in the West : a family history', 1984, which is filed at MLMSS 4451

Robert Muir was born in Scotland, 9 March 1815. He sailed to New South Wales on the ship Alfred in the company of Colin Campbell, arriving in Sydney on 16 January 1839. He entered into partnership with Colin Campbell and his brother John Campbell who owned a property, Glenmore, on the McIntyre River, near Inverell, N.S.W. The business was sold in October 1840 and Muir transferred to Andrew Lang's estate of Dunmore and Breeza station, Liverpool Plains. Muir married Isabella Ninian Lang, the sister of John Dunmore Lang, on 8 July 1845. He died on 12 July 1951

The diary records events on the voyage to New South Wales, the journey north from Sydney through Maitland, Muswellbrook, Goonoo Goonoo and Bannockburn to Glenmore and daily happenings at Glenmore and Breeza stations including visits of neighbouring settlers, the activities of convicts and appeals to the land commissioners
