  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Reverend Father Therry, 1790-1864, arrived in Sydney in May 1820 with Reverend Father Philip Conolly, the first two Roman Catholic chaplains in N.S.W. Conolly proceeded to Van Diemen's Land, leaving Therry as the only priest on the mainland. Therry was removed from his position in 1825 and was replaced by Father Daniel Power, died 1830, who arrived in December 1826. Reinstated in 1837, Therry was sent to Van Diemen's Land as vicar general in 1838. From September 1846 to April 1847 he was parish priest in Melbourne, until 1848 parish priest in Windsor, then back to Van Diemen's Land for six years and finally in 1856 to Balmain becoming archpriest in 1858
