    William Wilson Ingram, medical doctor and Antarctic explorer, was born in Craigellachie, Scotland, on 6 December, 1888. In 1912 he graduated in medicine from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Following the outbreak of the First World War, Ingram served in France with the Royal Scots Fusiliers. In 1915 he was wounded, after which in 1916 he served with the Eleventh General Hospital and for a period with the Fourth Dragoon Guards as a Regimental Medical Officer. After obtaining his M.D. with honours in 1919 from the University of Aberdeen, Ingram migrated to Sydney. In 1920 he was appointed to the staff of Sydney University as a lecturer in Physiology and Biochemistry. Between 1929 and 1931, Ingram was a member of Sir Douglas Mawson's British -Australian-New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition, which made two summer cruises to Antarctica on board the S.Y. Discovery. During the 1930's, Ingram devoted his major efforts to developing a diabetic clinic and to establishing research at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. On 22 December 1936, he married Dorothy E. King. During the Second World War, he served in the capacity of a lieutenant-Colonel, mainly commanding the Medical Division of various Australian General Hospitals. From 1948 to 1974, he was the Chairman of the Hospital Board of Studies, Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. Ingram died on 25 November, 1982
