    Sir John Franklin, 1786-1847, fifth Governor of Tasmania and a polar explorer in 1845 commenced what was to be his last Arctic journey. In 1847 all members of his expedition perished. John Joseph Shillinglaw, 1880-1905, was a historian concerned mainly with early Australian history and Arctic discovery
