  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Stuart Membery is one of the world’s celebrated designers. Membery’s work spans Architecture, Interior, Fashion, Fine Art and Product design. During the 70’s Stuart entered the field of advertising as a copywriter and wrote for Australia’s leading fashion accounts. Membery also wrote a weekly lifestyle column for Sydney’s Daily Mirror and Telegraph Newspapers. Membery joined a San Francisco company to design their ‘Sweet Baby Jane’ shirt line. Within a year, Membery wanted to develop the line into a fully co-ordinated fashion collection. Encouraged by the run-away success of their fledgling designer, the brand was re-labeled ESPRIT. Membery became an instrumental component in changing the face of contemporary fashion and creating the image of a company whose unprecedented annual turnover exceeded $2 billion world wide.
In July 1982 the first Australian Collection of the Stuart Membery Label took to the streets.
In 1987 Membery became the first Australian designer to be invited to show at the prestigious New York Collections.
Stuart Membery has branched out into The Stuart Membery Home Collection, comprising of Furniture, Accessories, Floor Coverings and Lighting.
