    Born in Northern Ireland, ca 1803, Frederick Dunbar was formally educated in Trinity College, Dublin. He entered the British Army in 1838 as an Ensign and spent several years in India where he married Emma Kane. Emma died in 1839 and Frederick with his 2 sons migrated to Melbourne in 1842.     13. Journal/notebook of Captain Frederick Dunbar. Book is hand-bound between marbled hard covers, with impressed in the corner an oval bearing the design 'London, 1840, superfine'. The entries are undated but it appears to be written over a period of time. Date is therefore estimated to be between 1840 and 1893. See no. 1 'Captain Frederick Dunbar, 1803-1893, a written documentary' pages 56-60 for some transcriptions.
