    Gallipoli, 1915. Shows Australian troops, first landing, trenches, Lone Pine, Imbros Island and villagers.
    5 photographs of the Western Front showing troops, battle scenes, trenches and dugouts. Captioned on reverse side. 41 photographs and photographic postcards.

    World War 1938-1945
    Balinese men and women, temples, dancers, cremations, and street scenes. All photographs have stamp of the “Travellers Official Information Bureau for Netherlands India, Java” issued on reverse side, together with caption notes. The majority of photographs have a page of detailed typed manuscript descriptions. Approx. 30 are listed on contents list. 49 photographs.

    FOLDER 11

    Unveiling of Singapore Memorial, 2 March, 1957. The Memorial bears by name 24,000 men and women of the Land and Air Forces of the Commonwealth who have no known graves. 1,645 Australians lost during the fall of Singapore are among those commemorated on the walls of the Memorial. The Sunday following the unveiling of the Memorial an Australian pilgrimage took place of servicemen in the theatre and relatives and friends of the fallen who had journeyed from Australia to be present. Photographs show laying of wreaths and members of the crowd. Each photograph has accompanied typed captions with names of people, and the stamp ‘Public relations Aust. Army Force GPO Singapore’ on reverse side. 19 photographs.

    16 mounted photographs pasted into photographic album, signed by H. Gordon Bennett. 31 x 25 cm. Images are captioned with place names and dates in Egypt and Lemnos Island, 1914-1915.

    World War 1938-1945
    54 photographs sent back to Sydney by Bennett from Malaya. 32 x 25 cm. book in navy binding. Photos are captioned and show Australian troops training in jungle, military hospital and the 19th Battalion on parade in Seremban February 1941.

    196 photographs taken by Henry Gordon Bennett of several areas in Malaya and sent back to Sydney. 32 x 25 cm. book in navy binding. Photos are captioned and some dated from February 1914 to September 1941. Images are of Kuala Lumpur and soldiers on parade and training in jungle. Some images have soldier’s names. On inside of front cover are notes about several images that have been marked with an ‘X’. Bennett has used the word ‘escape’ for several of them, possibly to do with his escape from Singapore after the Australian surrender.

    Green cloth binding with the title ‘Photographs’. 23 x 18 cm. Signed by H. Gordon Bennett. 28 Personal photographs from January to February 1915. Images depict Egypt, Pyramids, and Cairo. Civilians (Mr. and Mrs. Singleton) and military friends, 6th and 7th Battalions leaving for the front. Images are captioned and dated.

    Green cloth binding, signed by H. Gordon Bennett. 15 x 20 cm. 48 photographs and photographic postcards dated from 18 October, 1914 to 4 January, 1916. All images are captioned. First image is of H.M.T.S. Ago, the troopship in which Major Bennett travelled to Egypt. Other images are of troops in Cairo, Egyptians, the Nile, Abbassia, ruins at Memphis, Lemnos Island, Anzac Cove, personal friends Mr. and Mrs. Singleton.

    Green cloth binding, with the title ‘Photographs’. 20 x 25 cm. 48 photographs of Egypt, from 1914-1915. All images have captions, together with a handwritten contents list.

    World War 1938-1945
    46 (some loose) photographs pasted into spiral bound scrapbook. 18 x 26 cm. Photographs taken ca. 1950s of the areas in Malaya where the Japanese made their advance in 1942. Gemencheh Bridge, Muar River, beaches and village scenes.
