    James Sheedy, an Irishman closely associated with the Society of United Irishman, was named a political offender and was transported to Australia as a convict in 1805. The Society of United Irishman was founded in Ireland in 1791 and was concerned with Catholic emancipation and political reform. After the transportation of many of its supporters to Australia the Society was established in the New South Wales in 1806
