    James Silcock arrived in Australia from England in 1879. He worked as a potter at the Lithgow Valley Colliery Company's pottery where he was the first person to make wheel-turned pots. In 1881 he moved to Maitland, N.S.W., and a year later to Newcastle, N.S.W., where he remained.
