  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    James Charles White, 1809-1894, came to New South Wales from Ceylon 1830, and spent many years around the Darling Downs district of Queensland. He held a position with the Australian Agricultural Company, managed station properties, including 'Jondaryon'. He was, also, police magistrate at Warwick and took part in the search for gold. Two of his sons, William Thomas, 1853-1936, and Charles Edward 1855-1948, spent the greater part of their lives surveying in Queensland, whilst another son, Robert Hoddle Driberg, 1838-1900, was an officer with the Bank of New South Wales, gaining notoriety for his exploits against robbers of the Bank. Mrs Shirley Woodrow is a granddaughter of James Charles White
