    Christopher John Brennan, poet and scholar, was born in 1870 in Sydney and died in 1932. He married Anna Elisabeth Werth in 1897 and they had four children. Brennan was awarded a classics traveling scholarship in 1892, worked as a cataloguer for the Public Library of N.S.W., 1895-1909, during which time and subsequently he lectured in Latin, French and German at the University of Sydney. He became Associate Professor of German and Comparative Literature in 1920
