  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The property, Hobartville, was purchased by Lt. William Cox in 1816 and the homestead was completed in 1828. On the death of Cox in 1850, the estate was left to his wife, Elizabeth and on her death, to their son William. In 1863 Hobartville was conveyed to the third son, Sloper Cox, who lived there until 1877, after which the property was sold. Garling was associated with the Cox family through the marriage of his second daughter, Adelaide Sophia, to Sloper Cox in 1856.
