According to the donor, the photographs were presented to her grandfather John William Dunlop, a schoolteacher, when he was leaving Cudgegong ca.1902. The donor's mother, Mrs Jean Williams, stated that her father became a lecturer in art at Teachers' College in 1907, went to Europe on a scholarship in 1912 and was later an Inspector of Schools. The ML Field Librarian gained confirmation in August 1981 from the NSW Department of Education that J. W. Dunlop was stationed at Burrundulla Public School, January-March 1900 "and then relieving teacher at several places 1900-1901". He was appointed Inspector in 1913 -- ML correspondence file
