    Robert MacGregor migrated to Sydney, NSW, with his family in 1837. In 1852, he ventured to the gold diggings around Bathurst, NSW. For reasons that cannot be established, Robert MacGregor's sons were known by the surname of Gow. One of his sons, Donald Gow, also went to the diggings in the same year. David George Gow, another of his sons, married Margaretta nee? and they settled in Newcastle, NSW, where he trained to become a ship and boat builder
