  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Edward Hamilton and George Clive became partners in a pastoral venture when they purchased land at Collaroy, near Merriwa in NSW, from Walter Davidson in 1839. Hamilton managed the property, whilst Clive remained in England. There was much friction between the partners, and Hamilton sold his interest in Collaroy in 1855 to Captain H. Hamilton and James Clay. In 1854, Rowland Traill had become manager, and later, he became a partner with George Clive and Captain H. Hamilton. Edward Hamilton became the governor of the Australian Agricultural Company in 1857, which had several dealings with Collaroy. He also had an interest in Richmond and Warrah Stations. On Traill's death in 1873, Charles Clive, son of George Clive, became manager. Both Traill and Clive capitalised on Edward Hamilton's foundations, and the station experienced a fair deal of prosperity, winning many prizes for sheep at agricultural shows. Richard Brandon and later M. E. Maher succeeded Charles Clive as manager of Collaroy. The Collaroy Company Ltd. also managed other stations, such as Collyblue, Black Creek and Llangollen. They were all in the vicinity of the Liverpool Plains district. Collaroy Station was sold in either 1928 or 1929
