    Myles Joseph Dunphy was born in Melbourne, Victoria, but grew up mainly around Kiama and Annandale in NSW. His interest in bushwalking was first aroused by his walks in the Kiama district. As a pioneer bushwalker, conservationist and cartographer, he was prominent in the National Parks Movement, and was active in the establishment of many of them
  • Scope and Content
    The author traces the development of the bushwalking and conservation movements in NSW from 1870 to around 1978. In particular, he outlines the agitation and political lobbying of the Mountain Trails Club, National Parks and Primitive Areas Council, and similar societies, for the establishment of the parks and reserves that form the basis of the National Park system of NSW. Biographical information on Myles Joseph Dunphy is also included
