  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    George Watkin Wynne, b. 1872. He served in the Boxer Rebellion as Assistant Paymaster, from 8 August 1900 to 25 April 1901.

    He also served in the Boer War (1899-1902), with the 3rd Australian Commonwealth Horse (NSW) as Captain and Quartermaster, from 1 April, 1902 to 11 July, 1902.

    He was a major by 1911 and through the Daily Telegraph he organized and commanded the Australian Commonwealth Coronation Contingent at the coronation of King George V.

    The cadets travelled to England via South Africa, where they visited the Boer War battle sites of Ladysmith and Colenso.

    George Wynne also served in the 30th Infantry Battalion as a Lieutenant Honorary Captain from May-November 1916.
