    William Elyard, the elder, 1771-1853, arrived at Port Jackson in 1821 as Surgeon-Superintendent on the female convict ship John Bull. His eldest son, William Elyard, the younger, 1804-1865, received his first appointment to the public service in 1822 and became Under-Secretary to the NSW Government in 1856. His fourth son, Samuel, 1817-1910, was an artist and public servant. Another son, Alfred, became chief clerk of the Supreme Court
  • Scope and Content
    Includes diary of William Elyard, the elder, 1807-1809, in the hand of Samuel Elyard, kept while serving as a naval surgeon on the Pandora and a brief of litigation between Alfred Elyard and his two nephews, Walter Raleigh Elyard and Arthur Brundee Elyard concerning the Brundee Estate, NSW, ca. 1875. Enclosed in a letter from Samuel Elyard, 1 October 1900, are copies of part of a diary of William Elyard, the elder, 1821, kept while bound for Australia on the John Bull, a receipt for convicts delivered signed by Governor Brisbane, 1822, a memorandum relating to Elyard's services in the British Navy, 1822 and the commission of William Elyard, the younger as Under-Secretary to the NSW Government, 1856. The Ranclaud family papers consist of three letters received, 27 July-7 October 1844
