Frank Wild, 1873-1939, took part in five Antarctic expeditions, 1901-1922. This sledging journey was made during Sir E. H. Shackleton's Nimrod expedition, 1907-1909

Diary, describing Wild's experiences while on Shackleton's Polar sledging party, including a daily record of the events during the journey with Shackleton, Dr Eric Marshall and Jameson Boyd Adams across the Ross Barrier, up the Beardmore Glacier to within a hundred miles of the South Pole, events leading up to the final decision of the party to abandon their attempt to reach the Pole and their effort to return to the ship in time
