    Private W.A. Steel of Forbes, N.S.W., served with the 1st New South Wales Mounted Rifles in South Africa from 17 February 1900-13 December 1900. He departed Sydney 17 January 1900 on the transport Southern Cross and returned by the transport Orient 8 January 1901.
