    The Labor Electoral League (also known as the Political Labor League) was formed by the Trades and Labour Council after the Great Maritime Strike in 1890. In 1918, the League became known as the New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party.

    From 2nd September until 12 November 1897 the Acting General Secretary was L. Lamond, replacing Chas. M Barlow. George Alfred Jones (1866-1938) was elected General Secretary of the Labor Electoral League in 1897. He was first elected to Parliament in 1902 for Inverell, later becoming the Member for Gwydir from 1904-1913.
