    1 album (30 photographs) - carte-de-visite photographs in leather photo album with brass clasps - cover dimensions 16 x 12.5 cm.
    238 photographs - carte-de-visite, cabinet card, tintype and silver gelatin - between 2 x 2 cm. and 16 x 23 cm.
  • Collection history
    The cartes de visite and other 19th century photographs were acquired by Mr Leo Schofield in photograph albums he purchased. They were extracted and presented to the Library as loose photographs -- ML file
  • Scope and Content
    Leather-bound carte de visite album with brass clasps. Inscribed in ink on flyleaf: “M. A. [Morris? Morriss? Morries?] a gift from her Mamma. Browley[?] March 17th/65”. 30 carte de visite photographs, chiefly portraits. Includes photograph of ‘Glenrock’, Marulan; horse-drawn coach outside building with ‘Royal Hotel, Tho. Cochrane’ on signage; and 28 unidentified studio portraits of men, women and children.

    238 loose photographs: silver gelatin photoprints, cabinet cards and cartes de visite by studios in Sydney, Bathurst, Melbourne, Ballarat, Brisbane and Hobart, with original inscriptions, or identifications and transcriptions by Leo Schofield, including:

    Exhibitor’s pass to Centennial International Exhibition featuring photograph of Madame de Alba; 19th and 20th century photographs of properties ‘Cliffbrook’, Coogee (demolished 1976); ‘Waimea’, Woollahra?; ‘Logan Brae’, Bathurst; ‘Granny Busby’s cottage, Bathurst’; ‘Leichhardt Town Hall, Pa crossing road in front of tram’; woman standing beside camel-drawn coach in front of Barwon Hotel, Brewarrina; ca.1935; memorial card of Hannah Maria Bawden, d. 27 May, 1897; Bessie Couriot[?], Hereford Steet, Glebe Point; various members of Lougher family, Sydney (N.
