  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Prior to World War II, the archives of the Reichskolonialamt (Colonial Office) which on its formation in 1907 took over the colonial records of the Auswartiges Amt (Foreign Office) located in the Reichsarchiv in Potsdam. Late in the war, they were captured by the Russians and taken to Moscow, whence they were returned to East Germany in the mid 1950s.

    German New Guinea covered the present Territory of New Guinea and the Bismark Archipelago and the Micronesian Islands north of the equator, including the Caroline and Marshall Islands.
