Medallion of unglazed white ceramic; mythic bird design on obverse; Japanese script on reverse. Cover of box is labelled: "Concurso de Estudios Sobre el Japon, con Motivo del 26 Centenario en Commemoracion de la Fundacion del Imperio 660A.C.-1940. Kokusai Bunka Shinkokai (Sociedad Fomento de Cultura Internacional) Tokio, Japan"; and in Japanese script. Damaged paper fragment inside box is inscribed in ink: "... Tarlton Rayment as a token of regard from Kokusai Bunka Shinkoka[i] ... 1941 Tokyo Japan"

Bronze; on obverse: "Australian Natural History" and relief of Aboriginal figure and carved tree atop cliff; on reverse: engraved "For special study and for increasing knowledge and appreciation of natural history in Australia. Awarded to Tarlton Rayment 1951"

The Australian Natural History medallion is awarded each year by the Field Naturalists' Club of Victoria.
