  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Mr. Henry Hugh Maiden was a salvage worker who was employed by Waugh's Ltd. He supervised the raising of the ferry, Greycliffe, in 1927, and the ferry punt Benelon in 1923. Mr. Maiden also experimented on improving salvage equipment, and shark proof nets. The album contains photographs of his working models.
  • Scope and Content
    Album containing photographs, images, correspondence, and newspaper clippings from ca. 1890 to 1951 of ships and salvage crew. Most have captions and descriptions of ship size, history, date and sinking. Many of the wrecks are off the New South Wales coast or Sydney Harbour.

    Also contains Patent No. 8701/18 dated 17th September 1918 for "Improvements in derrick cranes" by Henry Hugh Maiden. Patent No. 18560/34 dated 21st July 1934 for "Improvements in or relating to shark proof nets" by William Walton Barrie.
