  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Edward Robert Hickson Merewether, grandson of Edward Christopher Merewether, regarded as the founder of the Merewether Estate, and the great grand-nephew of David Scott Mitchell. Edward married Hope Docker with whom he had Edward John Merewether in 1924. In 1861 Edward's grandfather, E. C. Merewether, built on the Burwood Estate the landmark residence The Ridge, later known as Hillcrest. The Merewethers are known as the family for which the seaside suburb in Newcastle is named.
  • Scope and Content
    This pictorial material is part of the Merewether family papers at MLMSS 1187.

    Family photographs from 1890s to the 1960s, once contained in letters to Mrs Merewether mainly from England, or in a box of loose photographs.
