Australian born artist, Flanagan went to America in 1916. Most of his work was done from this time to the late 1930s. His work was produced for Collier's, Cosmopolitan, and Adventure Comics.

Flanagan signed his work either J.R. Flanagan, John R. Flanagan, and Jack Flanagan.
