  • Collection history
    The panorama was formerly owned by Sir Denison Miller, the first president of the Commonwealth Bank and then by his son, Mr John Denison Miller of Leura. Mr J. Denison Miller presented the panorama to the Mitchell Library through the intermediation of Sir Howard Beale.
  • Scope and Content
    6 albumen prints lined on canvas as a panorama showing an approx. 180 degree view from Phillip St toward St James' Church at left to Phillip St toward Circular Quay at right. The General Post Office tower is seen under construction. The Free Public Library is seen to the lower left below the point of view. The photograph is possibly taken from a tower atop the Government Printing Office.

    Another copy is held at V1 / 1882 / 3 (in 2 sections : sepia ; 292.1 x 36.8 cm and 297.2 x 36.8 cm), which includes an additional 180 degrees of view taking in Farm Cove, the Domain, the eastern suburbs.
